Did you know that shopping locally reduces pollution! It cuts down on transportation, processing, packaging and waste.
Small businesses account for about 95% of all businesses in the United States. They also create for about 65% of all new jobs and significantly more of the money you spend stays in the local economy. A larger percentage of their taxes also contribute locally.

There are numerous other reasons to support your local markets and stores.
You know the people behind the business. For example, Shlomo is managing Pacific Beads and knows all his regular customers. He has an endearing habit of offering Lotto tickets to all his shoppers, as he feels hope is uplifting and makes your day better. That sort of personal touch is not found in national chains.

Local businesses give a community its flavor. They are unique to your town and community.

Pacific Beads looks like a warehouse, but wait till you step inside to a bead, jewelry and geode wonderland!
Beads and geodes can be purchased at many national department stores. However you cannot get your customer service issues solved with the person running the store whom can make an immediate decision and has a personal interest in satisfying and keeping you as a customer. Many large corporation customer service representatives are far removed from the customer and have little concern in keeping you as a customer. As in Pacific Beads, all employees are dedicated to their client’s interests.

Department stores do not normally recruit management employees locally. Lower paid positions are usually reserved for local residents, whereas your community store will employ from the surrounding areas.
Many local businesses offer handmade goods. For example Pacific Beads offers US handmade bracelets and necklaces.

Our repairs keep our local silversmiths employed, we don’t for example, ship our repairs to another state. Our Pacific Beads team are all local with intimate knowledge of regional customs.

Every employee working at Pacific Beads can give you expert advice, whether it’s in regards to beading or mystical properties of our crystals and stones. This is the norm in local communities and not usually found in corporate business.

We are becoming so global that all our local personalities and independence is being slowly eroded.
In my view it would benefit us all to support our local business, I do and I would love to hear your ideas on this subject.
